Magma - Innovative, High-Tech Expansion Solutions

Compatibility

The sheer number of cards and device drivers available makes it impossible for Magma
to fully test and certify all add-in cards for use with Magma expansion products.

Our best advice to you in this regard is to insist on full PCI and PCI Express Specification compliance from your card and system vendors. Cards and systems should be PCI Specification Revision 2.1 compliant and follow PCI Express Revision 1.1 or better. Compliance in your system motherboard, cards and BIOS is your best assurance that everything will install and operate smoothly. Magma will attempt to assist you to the best of our ability you if experience trouble.

Tips for Success

- Generally, there should be no compatibility issue when using a desktop computer or server.
- Magma drivers are not required for MacOS X, however, your card must be supported by the MacOS of choice in order to function properly.
- We support Linux Kernel Build 2.6.10+. We do not differentiate between RedHat, SUSE, Fedora, etc...
- The card installed in the Magma expansion unit must be supported by the operating system. For example, a Windows only video card won't work under MacOS X.
- For laptops, 3rd party cards must have a Windows WDM driver under Windows 2000/XP.
- For Mac Users: DO NOT use MacBook Pro (Unibody Model) that has Model ID = 5,1

External video with a PC Laptop:
We recommend ATI motherboards and ATI GPUs. If you prefer Nvidia graphics, Windows XP should be used. For quad video, we recommend Nvidia NVS440 with Sony Viao SZ Series, Windows XP or Vista. The ATI Radeon x1900XT and Nvidia Quadro FX 4500 are "double-wide" cards and will not physically fit into Magma ExpressBox1. Magma ExpressBox1 is designed for "single-width" graphics cards that require no more than 55 watts of power. "Double or Triple-Wide" cards that require additional power and more slot space will be compatible with Magma ExpressBox2 or ExpressBox4.
